Career Start Program

The Career Start Program is a core initiative funded by the Queensland Government, designed to provide vocational education and training (VET). This program supports individuals in gaining the skills, confidence, and qualifications necessary to secure employment, advance to more skilled positions, or obtain full-time jobs.

General Training Pathway

The Career Start General Training Pathway provides eligible individuals with access to a subsidised training place in an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification, through a pre-approved registered training organisation (RTO) of their choice – otherwise known as a Skills Assure Supplier (SAS).

Through Career Start, students can expect to build the skills and confidence needed to complete a qualification and take meaningful steps toward their career goals.

To be eligible to enrol in the Career Start General Training Pathway, prospective students must:

  • be aged 15 years or older
  • not be a school student
  • permanently reside in Queensland
  • be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen
  • not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count)
  • not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count)

Horizon Specialised Training is approved to offer the following nationally recognised qualifications under the Queensland Career Start General Training program:

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support
