Navigating the NDIS
and Advocacy Supports
NDIS & Myhorizon
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a Commonwealth government initiative that takes a new approach to providing individualised supports for people with permanent and significant disabilities, their families, and carers.
The NDIS has been designed to provide you with more choice and control over your day-to-day activities and your disability support funding, enabling you to:
- Build your skills and capability
- Access community services and supports
- Receive reasonable and necessary funded supports
You can decide what reasonable and necessary supports you will need to achieve your goals and then receive funding to pay for those supports.
Am I eligible?
You are eligible to participate in the NDIS if you are:
- living with permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities;
- an Australian citizen or permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or the holder of a Protected Special Category Visa; and
- under the age of 65.
For further information on eligibility, please visit the NDIS eligibility checklist.
Contact the NDIS directly to complete an access request form. Visit www.ndis.gov.au or call 1800 800 110.

Advocacy Supports
Have you ever felt you needed some support with making difficult decisions, making a complaint, or sourcing legal services? Maybe an advocate could help you.
Advocacy services help and support people with disability, their families or carers, to:
- understand their rights
- navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and other mainstream services
- address gaps in support
- address discrimination, conflict, and unfair treatment
- make informed decisions
- build capacity to advocate for themselves
- ensure fundamental needs are met
- provide support through legal matters
- provide information and referrals to disability support services
